One active travel journey to school each week can make all the difference.

Tips for actively travelling to school

1 Walk and talk
Walking is an easy way to be active and healthy, and spend more time with family and friends. Walking to school on a regular basis can help your child develop good habits for an active life.

2 Park and stride
If you live too far away to walk to school, why not drive to the start of an active travel route and walk the rest of your journey? Save fuel and get fit!

3. Learn to be safe on the road
Regular active travel can help improve your child's road safety awareness and knowledge. Remember to stop, look, listen and think when riding or walking around your neighbourhood.

4. Mix it up
Try riding a bike or scooter - it's a fun and fast way to travel to school. Make sure your child always wears a helmet, keeps to the footpath and watches for cars coming in and out of driveways.

How easy is it for you to walk, ride or catch public transport to school? It just became a whole lot easier to plan with our new Active Travel map.

Brisbane City Council has created our own customised map as part of our Active School Travel program. The map makes it simple for you to find your best walking, riding or public transport route to school. It highlights local walking and riding paths, crossings, bus stops, parks and playgrounds, and other local points of interest.

The map features suggested active travel routes (pink) where you can park outside the 6-8 minute walk radius from the school gate and walk or ride the final part of your journey. Part way is okay!
